Don't you love his sneaks? :)

This picture was taken when Caden was 3 months old. He was easier to put to sleep then! He would even fall asleep while playing. That doesn't happen now!

It's a Miracle!

I can't believe it- Caden PUT HIMSELF to sleep!!! Last night was horrible. I know I said I wouldn't let him sleep in our bed but Jeff and I were SO tired. Caden went to bed at 9:30 (he needed a bottle to do that) and woke up at 11:00 screaming. I took him to our bed until he fell asleep (it took about 15 minutes) and then I put him back in his crib. Well, 20 minutes later he woke up screaming again so I put him in our bed and he slept there until 7:00 this morning. I promise Caden in done sleeping with us! I've had it!!!! :)

So I have been looking on the internet about ways to help your baby sleep and I found a good site that said you have to establish a routine and you need to stick to it. It said you need to put your baby to bed at the same time every night and you need to let him fall asleep on his own (without nursing, rocking, or giving him a bottle). And you can't wait until your baby is overtired. I think that is what we do with Caden. We wait until 9:30-10:00 and that is just too late. It said 7:00-8:30 is a good bed time. And it also said to put your baby down for naps at the same time every day. Caden doesn't nap- I think it's because he is overtired... Other sites say that babies his age don't need a bottle during the night any more unless they are having a growth spurt- they are old enough to wait until morning. We have been doing this and Caden eats great in the the day now. All we need is for him to learn to fall asleep on his own.

Well, just a few minutes ago I noticed that Caden was yawning a lot so I put him in his crib, turned on his soft music and shut the door. He only cried for about 5 minutes and he is asleep! IT IS A MIRACLE!!!! We'll see how this goes! :)

Grumpy Bear

Caden has been IMPOSSIBLE today. I think he might be teething- hopefully he will get a little tooth soon. He started applesauce today and he loves it. He still takes 5-6 seven ounce bottles a day, though. I wonder if I might have to give him bigger portions of his baby food. We'll see. Every Thursday I go to a Mom's group and there is a nurse there who is an expert on babies. It is nice because I can get my questions answered. Raising a baby is not exactly easy.

I went to another Mom's group today that hopefully Caden will like. They have a gazillion toys there and they even gave out a free stuffed animal, books and all sorts of neat things. Caden's new stuffed thing is named Quigley. :) Caden was very grumpy there, though. He hates small children. I know! But he does. Whenever a baby makes eye contact with him he cries. He does that awful silent cry and then he explodes. There were 3 one-year olds there and when Caden was in an exersaucer they swarmed him and tried to push him over. So I don't blame him! :)

I took Caden to Shoppers tonight by myself and he was good until bottle time. His bottle was due at 7:00 (the dreaded 3 hour mark) and at 7:03 Caden was not a happy camper. I think he was worried he would lose an ounce! Luckily Daddy had a bottle ready when I got home.

Anyway, we need to try and get him to bed. Last night was not good at all. Caden was up from 2:00-4:00. We tried to let him cry but after 1.5 hours of screams we gave up and put him in our bed. I am done letting him cry like that. It might work for some people but I don't like it. And Caden is not going to end up in our bed tonight. We really need to break him of the habit. So I'll put up a picture of Grumpy Bear. :) Bye for now!

Busy Boy

It's been a somwehat tiring weekend. We took Caden to the pool on Friday and he loved it! It is great because there is a huge pool for children that is as warm as bath water. There are fountains everywhere- it is really nice. Jeff does laps in the main pool (it is too cold for my liking!) and then to warm up afterwards we all go to the hot tub. I only dip Caden in and out to warm him up because he isn't old enough for the hot tub yet.

Yesterday we all went bowling with Matt and Tarena (Caden's uncle and hopefully soon-to-be Aunt :) Caden did a lot of rolling around on the floor on his blankie and had a great time. Then we went to church to see Cheryl dance and to listen to the service. It is nice that you can go on Saturday here. I often miss most of the Sunday service at our church because of Caden. Jeff teaches so he can't help. So it was nice to go to a different church for a change so Jeff could take Caden for a bit so I could listen. Caden was quite funny- he was laughing and he spet most of the service trying to pull the chair apart. The people behind us thought he was awfully cute... :)

So today we are going to church and then Grammie and Grampie Jones are going to attempt to watch Caden so Jeff and I can go out for a bit. Last time we left Caden with other people he didn't do very well. Before Christmas he refused to take a bottle from Grammie and Grampie Jones and cried for a while until I came back. And at Christmas he didn't do the greatest when left alone with his Aunt Meredith. As you can tell we haven't left him alone very much but we need to. So we'll see how today goes! :)

He Slept Through the Night!

Last night went pretty well- we tried to get Caden to go to bed around 8:00 because he was up until 11:00 the night before (he was worked up from Kim's party) and he only had one short nap during the day. Well, that didn't go over well with Caden. He screamed and cried and flipped all around his crib. He would turn to his belly and SCREAM. Tears were running down his little face... So at about 8:30 we (or I- Jeff is a little stronger than me) felt absolutely terrible so I took him out of the dreaded crib and put him on the floor while I folded laundry. He was SO happy to be with me. He was smiling and laughing. He played until about 9:30 (2 hours after his last bottle) and decided he wanted another bottle (or ba ba as we say :) before he would go to bed. So we gave in as we always do and he went to bed at about 9:40-7:20 straight. Jeff is still tired so he is still sleeping but I feel great. It is wonderful when your baby finally sleeps through the night. We will have to be home by 7:00 or so tonight if we want him to sleep well, though. If our routine is thrown off at all he will have trouble sleeping. And ever since we stopped feeding him in the night, he has been great. So he has slept straight through 3 nights and woke up once for a soother the other 2 nights. I think he is going to do OK. :)

Mom and Baby

Erin really likes this picture of her holding Caden while he's wearing just a diaper- it was taken when he was about 2 months old... She is glad her big belly is gone and cannot thank God enough for her little boy. The first picture was taken in British Columbia when Erin was about 7 months pregnant. In the second picture Erin was very very pregnant. Caden was born just a day or two after that picture was taken. The third picture was taken very soon after Caden was born. He is such a cute baby! The last one is Caden now.

More pictures :)

Here are a few cute pictures. The one of him in his sweater vest was taken just a few days ago. Daddy isn't too fond of the vest- he thinks it is nerdy but Mommy and Baby like it. I guess that's all that matters. *smiles*

Newborn Caden with Grandma Aleta....

This one was just a couple days after he was born:

Busy Little Boy...

Erin's earlier comment about Caden being into everything reminded me of this picture:

This was little Caden on October 18, just two months old. And yet he was already trying to build puzzles with the family...

Caden With Grammie and Grampie Fairgrieve...

Look how happy he is!!!

The First Party!

Caden went to his first birthday dinner tonight and he did great! He went to his Aunt Kim’s birthday get-together at Luciano’s and he had so much fun. He was grabbing the plates, drinks, napkins, and almost toppled over his Daddy’s water twice. He made a mess with his bananas and got them all over himself, and when he wasn’t busy making a mess he was sucking/chewing the table! He is definitely a busy boy. He rolls all over the floor and he is very very close to crawling. This morning while Mommy was blow-drying her hair, Caden rolled off his mat and was part way under the bed pulling at the sheets! He never stops!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIM! :)

Christmas 2006 With Great-Grandma!

This is our beautiful little boy with my Nanny!

He Can Roll Over!

Hey everyone! This post is to keep you all updated on little Caden Joshua Jones. He was born on September 8, 2006 for those of you who do not know him (weighing 8 lbs 15 ounces and was 21 inches long), and he is a precious little angel. He is now about 5 and 1/2 months and he can roll from front to back and back to front, and he eats his cereal like a pro! He is on cereal 3 times a day and today Daddy is going to bring home some fruit for baby to try.

So for the last 4 nights Caden has slept pretty well. The first 2 nights he slept from about 9:30-7:30 straight and that was wonderful! Last night and the night before he woke up once for a soother and then went back to bed until 5:30. But at that time the only thing we could do to get him to sleep was to put him in our bed. I don’t know what it is but the second we put him in our bed he puts his little hands over his head and goes to sleep. Frustrating… Tomorrow I think I might have to let him cry but we’ll see. I tried to let him cry this morning but when I went in his room he was backwards in his crib on his belly and he was screaming. You can’t help but laugh!

Caden is eating so much better now. We had a lot of trouble for about 2 months. When we went home to New Brunswick for Christmas Caden stopped breastfeeding and we were forced to switch to formula. We went back and forth until he was 4 months because I really didn’t want to stop nursing him. But he just refused, and then he started refusing the formula too. For 2 days he hardly ate a thing and then he went one day without eating at all. It was horrible. Finally we found out that he was lactose intolerant and started him on Enfamil Lactose Free. He LOVES it. He doesn’t spit up anymore (before he was spitting up constantly) and he doesn’t have gas pains anymore either. Before he would scream because he was intolerant to the breastmilk and formula, but we didn’t know that. I guess babies can develop an intolerance over time- that would explain why he was able to breastfeed at first. Now he wants a bottle about every 2 1/2 to 3 hours, but that is fine with me- as long as I don’t make him too huge…. Today he weighed 16 lbs 14 and 1/2 ounces. For a long time he wasn’t gaining at all so I am happy that he is doing better.

My sister, Meredith, wanted me to do this because her friend, Erin, has a blog about her little baby boy. We’ll see how this works. Caden is napping (he has been sleeping for over 1 1/2 hours which is a first) so I’d better hurry up and finish before he wakes up.
